Alkaline water can also be known to some extent as, “hard water” which includes high levels of iron or magnesium among other minerals. But the right kind of minerals and ratios can provide immense benefits. This is because it pushes nutrients and water inside of the cells instead of remaining in the extracellular matrix.
Alkalinity is measured between 7 to 9 on the pH scale. The lower the pH, the more acidic something becomes. However, this benefit is from internal pH balancing. This means, contrary to what we logically would assume, fresh lime and lemon actually alkalinize our body.
The benefits of drinking alkaline water may include:
-
Offsetting acid reflux and indigestion
-
Reducing blood pressure
-
Boosting immunity
-
Slowing bone loss
-
Aiding cardiovascular system
There are also negative effects of too much alkaline water, such as changing the microbiota and weighing heavily on the kidneys to balance electrolytes.
